Prof. McGiffin up until recently was the head of cardiothoracic surgery and transplantation at the Alfred, Melbourne but has retired from clinical practice. He holds the positions of Senior Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Monash University. He spent most of his career in the United States at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, involved principally in heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. Prof. McGiffin brings to the project considerable expertise in ventricular device implantation and management of patients with end-stage heart disease. He has written extensively in all aspects of cardiac surgery, transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.
