Dr Ian Nicholson is currently a VMO at Westmead Hospital, Westmead Private Hospital, the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital and the Children’s Hospital, Westmead. He is the head of department at the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Nepean Hospital (cardiothoracic surgery) and the Children’s Hospital, Westmead.
He manages all aspects of both adult and paediatric heart and lung conditions. His surgical repertoire incorporates all aspects of structural heart disease, valve repairs, aortic surgery, arrhythmia surgery and chest corrective procedures. Dr Nicholson has also volunteered in over 55 life-saving heart surgery missions in the South Pacific, East Asia, East Africa and South America with Open Heart International. His longstanding commitment and service to humanitarian work earning him an appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2015. Dr Nicholson additionally was a NSW finalist in the Australian of the Year awards in 2016 for his significant humanitarian contribution.
