Kate studied medicine in Leicester, UK, and graduated in 1993. After general cardiology training and a PhD she settled on a career in adult congenital heart disease, and worked as a consultant in ACHD and obstetric cardiology in Leeds, UK for 20 years. During her time in Leeds, she led the department through a major period of growth, providing comprehensive care for 9000 ACHD patients, and mentoring a team of 6 consultants, 4 specialist nurses and allied staff.
She has always been committed to broadening exposure and training in ACHD to equip all cardiologists in training with the skills and confidence required to manage emergency presentations in this increasingly complex group of patients, and has led many training and curricula initiatives in the UK, alongside ongoing research particularly focused on transition and outcomes in congenital heart disease and obstetric cardiology.
Kate and her family relocated to Melbourne in December 2023, and she has just joined the team at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where she is looking forward to experiencing the differences of a new health care system.
